Hi all,
So it’s been a week since I departed London and said hello to my new (perhaps temporary) life in Canada.
It’s been a weird week of adjusting to a new city, new life and no schedule. I’m very much a social butterfly and if I’m not working I’m out and about keeping busy. So adjusting to having no friends and no schedule has been a bit odd, but I’ve met a couple of people and everyone here is super friendly (especially Shiela, a 78 year old resident of my apartment who offered to cook me dinner).
My close friends and family will know about the first couple of days I had here and from then it’s been plain sailing. I’ve set up a bank account, I’ve got a social insurance number and I actually caught myself referring to my trousers as my pants the other day, so I’m basically a local.
My apartment is insane, apparently this is normal condo living here but having a pool/gym/cinema in my building blows my mind - AND it’s never busy!!! I found shopping a bit weird because they have normal chicken and then ‘chicken raised without antibiotics’ like what the hell?!. I haven't bothered buying a bed in case I do move towns but I am currently sleeping on a lovely mattress on the floor.
I keep being mistaken for being Australian and when people find out I’m English 9 times out of 10 the first thing they say is ‘what do you think about Meghan and Harry then?’ !! Weird.
I took a little trip to Niagara Falls yesterday (only an hour and a half drive from Toronto!) and it was incredible. I went about 8 years ago but I don’t think I truly remembered the vast beauty of it.
I fly to Calgary tomorrow to go to the stampede and scout out the town to see if I can see myself living there. I’ve already been chatting to a few girls on Facebook who are all in the same boat so I’m excited to meet them.
So for now that’s all, after this trip I’ll start applying for jobs and we’ll see how that goes.
Em x
Ps let’s hope I meet a nice cowboy.
