New Year, Same Me.

It's been a while since I wrote a blog post and mostly that's because I've been off seeing new places and I've also had friends come visit. Let's catch you all up.

After wallowing in self pity after failing the exam back in December, I felt a bit lost. I worked over Christmas and luckily worked with a really nice girl who made me enjoy the job again, how refreshing that was. Anyway after talking myself into maybe cutting this stint in Canada short, Becca (the lovely paramedic) made me think twice. What is it Rocky says? "It's not about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward." SO I have decided to spend $700 (even saying that makes me want to cry) and resit the exam in February. If that doesn't work, who knows? I'll cross that bridge if and when I get there. I've had moments where this experience has made me second guess whether I'm good at my job or not but I have to remind myself of everything I achieved in London and sometimes shit happens, just pick yourself up and move on.

The highlight of my entire time in Canada came on December 28th when my old housemates Ed and Ella flew to visit me for 2 weeks. Ella came all the way from Adelaide and Ed came from London with his boyfriend Joe. I can't tell you how much I needed that visit but it was everything. We spent NYE in a cabin in Nordegg, a sleepy little town near the Rockies south of Jasper. We did everything you can imagine... curling, skiing, hiking, tabogonning the list is endless. I am so lucky to have such kind and wonderful friends, their visit really has reset me and I'm ready for the next challenge.

I also just got back from a week in NYC. I visited with a girl I met in Asia in 2016, Jenny. I even went to Jenny's wedding in 2018 and we just kept in touch. Anyway, what a fun time we had. We saw a Broadway show, went sight seeing, caught up with all her friends (she used to live in the city, now lives in Austin TX) and ate lots of great food. The trip only lit more of a fire inside me to travel often and see everything I can while I'm here.

I'm writing this from my little bedroom at work, I'm back out in the sticks for 6 days on call. I'd like to assure you I'll study (which I will) but I'm currently watching The Bear.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words and support on my bumpy, crazy, fun journey. I moan a lot but I wouldn't change this experience for the world.

Until next time

Em
