I haven’t written in almost two weeks and basically because I’ve just been busy and nothing that interesting has happened. But I'll give you a run down, all 4 fans who are following this blog anyway.
So if you have been following you’ll know I joined a Facebook group called ‘Girls Connect Calgary’ and met Devan and a couple others when I was in Calgary for stampede. Anyway, Devan being the little Gem she is hosted a girls dome weekend (all part of her content creating life) the same weekend as my birthday. The only prerequisite was we all wear pink for a very cult like inspired video for her TikTok (I’ll post a picture below). 14 girls from the Facebook group came, some having met before and some not. They were all bloody lovely and even got me 2 birthday cakes and some flowers, I think finding friends here won’t be so hard after all. Although there are only so many times you can explain that we call pants trousers, overalls dungarees and patios beer gardens.
This leads me into day 2 of the birthday weekend and to say it’s the most uncomfortable I’ve ever felt would be an understatement. To give it some context the outside party room/area had a huge barbie box in it and we assumed this was for content all week as you can book a photographer and use the space. What we DIDN’T know was that we were being used to promote it, so donned back in pink I was asked to stand in a box and pose. This was so uncomfortable for me as I hate having my photo taken at the best of times, let alone when I’m wearing head to toe pink and I have props to use. Let’s just say I was so glad when it was over and we all went for lunch, although the pictures did turn out ok (ish).
on a side note I really can’t thank Devan enough for making my first birthday away from home such a hoot. Thanks girl!
I spent pretty much the entire next week hiking in the Rockies getting used to what I’m now calling my ‘new playground’. Some of the sights were just unimaginable, pure blue lakes and mountains further than the eye can see. Friday I went to Lake Louise and if hiking little beehive and big beehive weren’t enough, I decided to head out to the plain of six glaciers as well. 30km, 45k steps and some sunburn later I was exhausted. Anyway I’ll attach some of the gorgeous photos below for you all to become highly jealous of.
That takes me into this week where I’m trying to get the last bits of life admin done to start work. Yesterday after trying and failing to get my medical done for my ambulance licence (I was told I didn’t need my health card which is on its way in the post, but after a $30 Uber and an hour wait the doctor informed me I did) I had a little cry. Sometimes it’s like pushing the reset button, and today I’m feeling ready to continue. Being the ‘Guinea Pig’ amongst anyone I know in relation to trying this whole move to Canada is fun but also I wish someone had given me a ‘how to’ guide before I got here. The system is complicated and nobody really knows how to fully integrate an international smoothly into their system. So if you are intending on making the move, please do contact me.
I’ve moved into my new digs and they are beyond BEAUTIFUL, the girls also seem lovely and it’s so nice to be social again - I’m hoping they show me around and introduce me to Calgary life.
So for now, no more tears, another few days of waiting to continue life admin and hopefully I’ll be back on the road working within a fortnight (another term they don’t use here).
What a ride this is
