Hello again,

So I’m currently writing this on the plane as I fly to Toronto! I thought I’d be clever and get a window seat near the back, turns out that was a bad decision. The toilets close by are out of order, there is in fact no window next to my seat AND I’ve left my headphones in my old house. But on the brighter side, the girls sat next to me are super friendly and the film choice isn’t too bad.

It’s been a whirlwind of a week, saying goodbye to family and friends. A few tears have been shed, more on everyone else’s part than mine (won’t come as a shock to my friends). Even my dentist cried when my Nan decided to call me mid polish on Thursday, to add some context she said to take the call and then my Nan decided this was a great time to tell me how proud she was of me and how proud my grandad would have been. ANYWAY, it’s been nice seeing so many friends and it does make me sad to be leaving.

This morning after a small cry, hug and some solid advice from Katie, my parents arrived. Being from Portsmouth you can imagine my 61 year old dad finds London traffic a little stressful. After a spot of lunch, once the bags (all 2 of them) were loaded into the car, the decision was made that I would drive us (in my dads car with my mum in the back) to the airport!! Nothing says goodbye to London like some traffic on the A4.

From there it was all a bit of a rush, the traffic set me back a little so I totally forgot to get a picture with my luggage on arrival. But at the bottom you’ll see me just heading into security. My mums basically been crying since I said I was going but watching her sob broke my heart a little. After quick hugs and kisses, I was in, through security and in departures. I was met by my very own personal CRU paramedics (AKA best buds Sian and Ed), I even got a little backy through the airport to my departure gate, talk about travelling in style !!! I couldn’t have imagined a better send off and I don’t think they noticed, but I got a bit teary as I waved goodbye and boarded the plane.

*whilst on the flight with about 20 minutes left I started to wonder why we were circling in the air and not landing? Then suddenly there was an announcement that we were being diverted to Ottawa due to a fire and evacuation of the control tower in Toronto. You literally couldn’t write this stuff. After 2 extra hours sat on a plane that smelt of vomit with a particularly loud crying child, I finally made it to Toronto. Nothing says welcome to Canada like this.

Oh I also realised I left my brand new Columbia Sherpa Jacket behind, so that’s fab.

For now that’s it, I’ll update you when more interesting things happen and I get myself sorted. I’ll try and get back to those asking questions as soon as I’m settled.

Em x
